The Architecture of High-Rise Buildings in a Coastal City: A Case Study in Nha Trang, Vietnam from an Ecoscaping Approach

This study delves into the architectural morphology of high-rise buildings (HRBs) in Nha Trang, Vietnam, from an ecological landscape perspective. By analyzing 30 typical HRBs, the authors identify three main groups of architectural forms: flat envelope, flat envelope combined with loggia, and volume with courtyard. The study highlights the importance of integrating natural elements and climate-responsive design in high-rise architecture to create sustainable and aesthetically pleasing urban landscapes. The authors propose solutions for improving the urban landscape quality in Nha Trang, emphasizing the role of transfer floors, green spaces, and loggias in regulating the microclimate and enhancing the visual appeal of the buildings. The study also discusses the symbolic and economic aspects of eco-iconic architecture, showcasing how green design principles can lead to iconic and uniquely striking high-rise buildings. The analysis of architectural morphology and the proposed solutions offer valuable insights for architects, urban planners, and environmental consultants seeking to create sustainable and visually appealing high-rise buildings in coastal cities.
