There are storms brewing at Volkswagen, with talk of job cuts and even possible plant closures in Germany. German politicians suspect that errors have been made within the organization. However, an analysis of the situation at Volkswagen soon makes it clear that it is the influence of these very policymakers that has helped to determine the course taken by the company. The German state of Lower Saxony has a blocking minority when it comes to resolutions made by the company's annual general meeting. After the German government set strict targets for the introduction of battery electric cars, the statements made by the company suddenly seemed completely logical.
