Abstract

This chapter delves into the correlation between wind disaster events and the resulting damage to structures in Indonesia, focusing on data from 2014 to 2023. The study utilizes national disaster data from the BNPB and ERA5 reanalysis to estimate wind speeds during disaster events. A key finding is the development of a fragility curve that shows the probability of damage at various wind speeds, with a 50% probability of damage occurring at an average wind speed of 7.76 m/s and a 90% probability at 11.46 m/s. The research also reveals significant regional variations in wind-induced damage, with East Nusa Tenggara experiencing the highest damage despite a lower frequency of wind disasters. The study concludes that current design wind speeds may be overestimated and suggests improvements in data collection and analysis for future disaster mitigation strategies.
