Abstract

This article delves into the significant effects of calcium carboxylate salts on the crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of Polybutylene succinate (PBS), a biodegradable polymer with promising applications in packaging and films. The study systematically evaluates the nucleation efficiency of various calcium carboxylate salts, providing a detailed analysis of their impact on PBS's crystallization temperature, rate, and crystal morphology. Through advanced characterization techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and polarized optical microscopy (POM), the research offers a thorough examination of how these nucleating agents influence the crystalline structure and mechanical performance of PBS. The findings highlight the superior nucleation efficiency of CaHHPA, which significantly enhances the crystallization temperature, accelerates crystallization rates, and improves the mechanical properties of PBS. This work not only contributes to the understanding of nucleating agents in polymer modification but also paves the way for the development of high-performance biodegradable materials.
