Abstract

The article investigates the influence of cBN powder particle size on the properties of PcBN composites with Ti3AlC2 system. It highlights the superior hardness, thermal stability, and chemical inertness of PcBN composites, making them ideal for cutting iron-based metals. The study focuses on the critical factors affecting PcBN tool properties, such as particle size and content of cBN powder, type of binder, and sintering conditions. The use of matched particle sizes with distinct scale ranges is emphasized to optimize the cutting surface quality, impact resistance, and wear resistance of PcBN tools. The research involves sintering PcBN composites under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions and analyzing their phase composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties. The results show that the optimal bonding state between cBN particles and binder, achieved at a specific cBN content, leads to the highest relative density, flexural strength, Vickers hardness, and abrasive ratio of the PcBN composites. The study also reveals the importance of Ti3AlC2 as a binder in enhancing the overall performance of PcBN composites.
