Abstract

The article delves into the modification of isotactic polypropylene (iPP), a thermoplastic with rapidly evolving applications across multiple industries. The focus is on the use of nucleating agents (NAs) to enhance the crystallization process, which is crucial for improving the mechanical properties and processing efficiency of iPP. The study investigates the role of crystal water in calcium salt of hexahydrophthalic acid (HHPA-Ca), comparing samples with and without crystal water (HHPA-Ca-CW and HHPA-Ca-RCW, respectively). Experimental results reveal that the removal of crystal water significantly enhances the nucleation efficiency, leading to higher crystallization temperatures and finer spherulite structures. The article provides detailed analyses of the structural, thermal, and mechanical properties of iPP modified with these NAs, highlighting the superior performance of HHPA-Ca-RCW. The findings offer valuable insights into the optimization of iPP for industrial applications, emphasizing the importance of controlling the crystal water content in nucleating agents to achieve desired material properties.
