Abstract

The article delves into the phenomenon of fire whirls, which are dramatic structures resulting from the interaction of combustion and fluid dynamics. It focuses on the impact of fuel rotation on fire whirl characteristics, comparing them with pool fires in terms of thermal radiation and major fire effluents. The study begins with a discussion on fundamental quantities of fire whirls and analyzes flame structure based on present and earlier measurements. The distinction between pool fires and fire whirls is made clear, highlighting the unique properties and behaviors of fire whirls that make them a significant hazard during forest fires.
