Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of work-life balance in the healthcare sector, where long shifts and administrative tasks pose significant challenges. It introduces the Work-Life Balance Tool (WLB-Tool) and compares the effectiveness of three meta-heuristic algorithms—Genetic Algorithm, Ant Colony Algorithm, and Particle Swarm Algorithm—in personalized personnel scheduling. The study aims to maximize the fulfillment of both managerial and employee scheduling demands, ultimately contributing to improved work-life balance. Experimental results from a Turkish hospital are presented, showcasing the practical application and potential benefits of these algorithms in optimizing healthcare staff scheduling.
