Abstract

The article delves into the complex interplay between solute suppressed nucleation (SSN) and latent heat release during the solidification of cast aluminum alloys. It highlights the limitations of traditional Al-Ti-B refiners in high-silicon content alloys and introduces Al-Nb-B refiners as a more effective alternative. The study employs advanced simulation techniques to analyze the dynamic changes in component undercooling and nucleation efficiency, revealing how these factors influence grain refinement. Moreover, it examines the significant impact of solidification latent heat on grain size and refining potency, offering valuable insights into the mechanisms that restrict grain refinement. The article concludes with practical recommendations for improving grain refinement efficiency, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
