Abstract

This chapter investigates the influence of temperature changes on the transverse vibration frequencies of carbon nanotubes, focusing on their behavior in thermal environments. The study employs a non-local Euler-Bernoulli beam model to analyze the free transverse vibrations of simply supported single-walled carbon nanotubes under varying thermal loads. Key findings reveal that an increase in temperature, as well as the non-local parameter, significantly reduces the natural frequencies of the nanotubes. The research highlights the importance of using non-local models to accurately study the vibrations of nanotubes and nanobeams. Furthermore, it demonstrates that the variation in natural frequencies due to temperature changes can be approximated by linear laws, providing a reliable method for predicting these frequencies with high accuracy. The chapter also explores the potential applications of these findings in modifying the vibratory characteristics of nanotechnology structures without altering the material, thereby contributing to the advancement of structural mechanics at the nanometric scale.
