Abstract

The chapter begins by underscoring the pivotal role of the airframe’s structural components in shaping flight performance, with a particular focus on the wing’s spar. It explores the delicate balance required in aircraft design to achieve a lightweight yet robust structure capable of withstanding flight stresses and maneuvers. The study delves into the impact of varying taper ratios on the structural robustness of spars in MALE UAVs, utilizing mathematical analyses and the Schrenk Approximation to ascertain lift distribution patterns. The research highlights the intricate interplay between taper ratios, lift distribution, and stress calculations, providing a foundational framework for investigating the strength and performance of the wing’s spar under varying conditions. The chapter presents a detailed analysis of how alterations in taper ratios affect normal and shear stresses, offering critical considerations for achieving optimal design parameters. Through this endeavor, the chapter illuminates the evolving landscape of aircraft design, emphasizing the importance of innovative approaches in enhancing the structural integrity and aerodynamic efficiency of MALE UAV wings.
