Abstract

The article focuses on the adequacy of academic preparation for STEM graduate students, particularly in teaching skills. It discusses the marginalization of teaching professional development (TPD) in graduate training and the need for evidence-based TPD programs. The meta-analysis examines the impact of TPD on graduate students' cognitive outcomes, teaching practices, and undergraduate student outcomes. It identifies self-efficacy as a key outcome positively impacted by TPD and highlights the need for more rigorous research designs to link TPD to undergraduate learning outcomes. The study concludes with implications for future research and practice in STEM graduate student TPD.
