Abstract

This chapter delves into the improvement of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) compactness and strength by incorporating marine sediments from La-Goulette Harbor, Tunisia. The study explores the use of these sediments as aggregates to enhance the mechanical properties of RCC for pavement applications. Through the Compressible Packing Model (CPM), six mixtures were formulated and tested for compressive and tensile strengths. The results indicate that mixtures containing marine sediments exhibited higher strengths compared to those with traditional aggregates. The study concludes that the incorporation of marine sediments not only improves the compactness and mechanical resistance of RCC but also offers an alternative for the valorization of these sediments. The findings suggest that RCC with marine sediments can be effectively used in base-courses or surfacing-courses of roadways, providing a sustainable and economical solution.
