Abstract

The aviation industry, particularly in the Baltic region, has witnessed significant growth and faces numerous challenges, including increasing demand, rising fuel costs, and environmental concerns. To address these issues, the industry is increasingly adopting advanced technologies such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to improve efficiency and sustainability. AI-assisted tools are crucial in enhancing decision-making processes, reducing human errors, and optimizing flight paths, thereby decreasing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The integration of AI in aviation is essential for addressing current and future challenges, leading to improved safety, increased efficiency, and reduced operational costs. The case study of SmartLynx Airlines illustrates the practical benefits and challenges of AI implementation in airline operations, focusing on areas such as predictive maintenance, crew management, and operational efficiency. The chapter also discusses the regulatory and compliance aspects of AI integration, emphasizing the need for a robust technological infrastructure and high-quality data. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of staff training and cybersecurity measures to ensure the successful adoption of AI technologies. The findings demonstrate significant improvements in delay management, crew control, slot management, and ground handling activities, underscoring the transformative potential of AI in the aviation sector.
