The Leadership Role in Fostering an Innovation Culture

Abstract

The chapter 'The Leadership Role in Fostering an Innovation Culture' examines the pivotal role of leadership in driving a culture of innovation within organizations. It begins with an introduction to the complex nature of innovation, tracing its evolution from Schumpeter's creative force of capitalism to its current link with knowledge and entrepreneurial capacity. The study identifies key factors influencing the innovation process, including leadership, internal innovation capacity, networks, strategy, technology management, and culture. It emphasizes the importance of aligning organizational culture with the dynamics of change inherent to innovation. The research focuses on the relevance of leadership in fostering an innovation culture, using quantitative methods to gather data from companies in Northern Portugal. The ETOILe model and the six Building Blocks of Innovation are employed to evaluate factors perceived by employees. The study concludes that leadership plays a crucial role in promoting an innovation culture, highlighting the importance of an entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, and continuous learning. Future research aims to test the framework in an organizational setting and develop tools for evaluating and monitoring innovation culture.
