Abstract

The chapter delves into the escalating cybersecurity threats in the financial services industry, highlighting the urgent need for robust security measures. It introduces blockchain technology as a potential solution, emphasizing its capabilities in identity management, data integrity, and intrusion detection. The primary focus is on the perceived barriers to blockchain adoption, categorized into functional and psychological barriers at both organizational and industry levels. The research employs a combined framework of the Technology-Organisation-Environment (TOE) Framework and Innovation Resistance Theory to identify these barriers. Through semi-structured interviews with industry experts, the study uncovers nuanced insights into the challenges faced by financial institutions in adopting blockchain technology. The findings are analyzed using thematic analysis, providing a detailed exploration of the barriers and offering valuable insights for organizations and researchers aiming to understand and overcome the resistance to blockchain adoption in the financial services sector.
