Abstract

The chapter delves into the personal factor in Ukraine's strategic communication, focusing on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's leadership and communication strategies during the ongoing war with Russia. It explores how Zelenskyy's personal image, leadership model, and populist rhetoric have shaped Ukraine's strategic narratives and public perception. The text also examines the role of strategic communication in times of war, highlighting the importance of personal leadership in mobilizing society and securing international support. Additionally, it analyzes the effectiveness of Zelenskyy's communication strategies, including his use of social media, emotional rhetoric, and positive communication. The chapter concludes by discussing the risks and challenges associated with personalizing strategic communication, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in communication strategies during wartime.
The article is written with the support of project O-006 “Strategic communication in the context of the war in Ukraine: lessons learned for Estonia”, Estonian Military Academy and PROF4 “Russia’s historical and political narratives in the Kremlin’s influence activities targeting Western (including Estonian) and Ukrainian audiences in context of Russo-Ukrainian war” (Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
