Abstract

The political economy of climate action in Indian Country is a critical topic, given the strong ties Native American and Alaskan Native people have to the environment. This article delves into the factors that influence tribal governments' decisions to adapt to climate change, ranging from natural resource abundance to informational access and member vulnerability. Using an original dataset, the study finds that land area positively impacts adaptive actions, while water area has a negative effect. Additionally, the regional variation in climate change impacts significantly influences tribal responses. The research contributes to the public choice literature and provides valuable insights into the unique challenges and adaptive strategies of indigenous nations in the face of climate change.
