Abstract

This chapter provides the overall picture of the historical process and current status of income diversification in the Chinese banking sector. It begins by outlining the major stages of banking reforms in China. Then, it describes the development of the non-traditional business by Chinese banks. Finally, the driving forces behind Chinese banks’ shift to income diversification are discussed.
