Abstract

The rise of user profiling in social media is a significant trend driven by the vast amounts of data generated by social media platforms. This article reviews the fundamental aspects of user profiling, including data sources, techniques, trends, and applications. It highlights the challenges in user profiling, such as privacy and security concerns, data ambiguity, and analytics-related problems. The article also provides a comprehensive taxonomy of user profiling in social media and discusses future directions, including spam analysis, automated profiling, and data fusion strategies. The findings are based on a bibliometric analysis of 360 publications, offering a holistic view of the subject and valuable insights for both existing and future researchers in the field.
