Abstract

The chapter delves into the role of foreign actors in African security, particularly focusing on the discourses of state failure and their implications. It argues that Eurocentric paradigms, such as the 'state failure' narrative, oversimplify the complexities of African states and exacerbate conflicts. The chapter highlights the historical legacies of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade, which have shaped contemporary African security challenges. It also examines the impact of neoliberal interventions and the 'War on Terror' on African states, particularly in the Sahara-Sahel region. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and context-specific approach to addressing African security challenges.
