Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of Lean practices in the successful implementation of warehouse management systems, particularly in the context of digital transformation. It begins by introducing the concept of digitalization and its impact on the manufacturing industry, emphasizing the need for efficient implementation to reduce costs and enhance competitiveness. The study then explores the relationship between Lean manufacturing and digitalization, highlighting how Lean practices can facilitate the adoption of new technologies. The methodology employed in the case study involves the use of Lean tools such as the A3 problem-solving template and interviews to validate findings. The case study focuses on an engine manufacturing company that successfully implemented a new Warehouse Management System using Lean practices. The results demonstrate how Lean practices helped identify and address inefficiencies, optimize non-value-added activities, and reduce working time. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the fundamental role of Lean practices in digitalization, showing how they can overcome hurdles and improve the likelihood of successful digital implementation. This study not only provides insights into the practical application of Lean practices in digital transformation but also underscores the importance of involving operators and continuous improvement in achieving long-term success.
