Abstract

This study delves into the factors influencing Jordanian households' pro-environmental intentions and behaviors, extending the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to include personal moral norms and policy influences. The research identifies perceived behavioral control, personal moral obligation, and policy and social propaganda as significant predictors of pro-environmental intentions. The study also examines the direct impact of these factors on actual pro-environmental behaviors, highlighting the importance of integrating individual and societal determinants. The findings suggest that while traditional TPB variables like attitude and subjective norms may not significantly influence intentions in the home context, the expanded model provides a robust framework for understanding and promoting sustainable practices. The study concludes that effective strategies for reducing household carbon emissions should consider these expanded variables, offering valuable insights for policymakers and environmental practitioners.
