The scavenging ratio, i.e. the concentration of a certain pollutant in precipitation divided by the concentration of the pollutant in air may be given arbitrarily good physical relevance by parametrization of the ratio so as to be valid under different dispersion and scavenging conditions. However, in practice the scavenging ratio is a rough instrument, and a certain value of the ratio is assumed to cower a wide range of different dispersion and scavenging cases.
