Abstract

The chapter 'Theorising Cooperative Sustainable Development' discusses the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the need for global cooperation to achieve them. It highlights the shortcomings of the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the importance of the SDGs in addressing social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The text emphasizes the crucial role of cooperation among governments, private sectors, civil society groups, and individuals in enhancing the effectiveness of the SDGs. It also examines case studies, such as China's Belt and Road Initiative and India's partnership with Vietnam, to illustrate the practical applications of cooperative sustainable development. Additionally, the chapter explores the concept of energy security and the need for a transition to renewable energy sources. It concludes by stressing the significance of international cooperation in building a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
