Abstract

This chapter delves into the thermal characterization of hydrated salt phase change materials (PCMs) used in thermal storage floors, highlighting their potential to enhance energy efficiency and thermal comfort in buildings. The study introduces a composite phase change material, EP-SPCM, developed in the laboratory, and explores its thermal properties, including a phase change temperature of 41.2°C and a latent heat of 170.5 J/g. The research constructs an analytical model for phase change thermal storage floors and compares the performance of these floors with conventional ones. Key findings include the slower rate of temperature change and extended thermal comfort time in the phase-change group, demonstrating the material's effectiveness in suppressing indoor temperature fluctuations. The study concludes that the thermal inertia of phase-change thermal storage floors significantly improves the stability of the indoor thermal environment, offering a promising solution for more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly building heating systems.
