Abstract

The article delves into the thermodynamic modeling of saponin adsorption behavior on sandstone rocks, aimed at enhancing oil recovery (EOR) techniques. It discusses the challenges of conventional EOR methods and the need for special techniques to sweep residual hydrocarbons from reservoirs. The study focuses on surfactant flooding, particularly using saponin, a natural surfactant, to lower oil/water interfacial tension. The authors present experimental data on the adsorption capacity of saponin on sandstone rocks and compare it with industrial surfactants. They also develop thermodynamic models to predict adsorption behavior under various temperatures and particle sizes. The results show that saponin adsorption follows the Langmuir isotherm model and is an exothermic process. The study concludes that saponin is a viable and cost-effective alternative for EOR applications, with its adsorption capacity comparable to industrial surfactants.
