Abstract

The article investigates the third-order nonlinear optical properties of mono and biphasic β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) in a continuous wave regime. Calcium phosphates, major components of teeth and bones, are known for their excellent physical and biological properties. The study focuses on β-TCP, which can exist in different polymorphic forms and is extensively used in bioceramics and composites. The optical nonlinear responses of heat-treated β-TCP powders were evaluated using Z-scan measurements, revealing significant variations in nonlinear absorption coefficients and refractive indices. The results suggest that β-TCP samples, particularly those heat-treated at higher temperatures, exhibit strong nonlinear optical properties, making them promising for applications in optical limiting and sensor protection in low-power continuous wave regimes.
