Abstract

This chapter delves into the challenges and solutions for finding a sustainable graphical modeling tool for the Meta Attack Language (MAL) framework. The study identifies the need for a robust tool to support MAL's meta-DSL structure and conducts a thorough evaluation of 26 candidate tools. Through a Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, the research defines key requirements for a suitable tool, focusing on functional suitability, usability, and sustainability. The evaluation criteria include workflow coverage, integration capabilities, visualization features, and support for collaboration. The study ultimately recommends ADOxx as the most suitable tool, highlighting its strong support for graph visualization and web-based accessibility. The chapter also discusses the potential challenges and considerations in integrating ADOxx with the existing MAL toolchain and emphasizes the importance of a systematic, requirements-driven approach for tool selection in the cybersecurity domain.
