Abstract

This article delves into the application of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in geotechnical engineering education, focusing on the development of AR/VR models for a virtual soil mechanics laboratory. It discusses the advantages of using AR/VR for teaching complex engineering concepts, enhancing learning flexibility, and promoting Education 4.0 and 5.0. The authors present detailed steps for creating 3D models using software like Autodesk Maya and Blender, and demonstrate how these models can be used to teach fundamental concepts in geotechnical engineering. The article also highlights the challenges and opportunities in enhancing the realism and physics of AR/VR models, and provides links to the created models on Sketchfab for further exploration. By showcasing practical examples and discussing the potential of AR/VR technology in education, the article aims to inspire educators and researchers to adopt these innovative teaching methods.
