Abstract

This chaptere explores a sophisticated method for detecting track gauge anomalies using LiDAR data, focusing on both global and local perspectives. The study begins by highlighting the importance of precise track geometry for railway safety and efficiency, emphasizing the role of track gauge in preventing derailments and reducing wear on tracks and rolling stock. The authors discuss traditional contact-based measurement methods and their limitations, leading to the development of non-contact technologies like LiDAR. The core of the chaptere presents a novel algorithm that combines global and local detection methods. The global approach uses statistical techniques to set a normal fluctuation range centered on the standard gauge, identifying points that exceed this range. The local approach detects significant changes in gauge within adjacent points, ensuring comprehensive anomaly detection. The algorithm employs clustering techniques like K-means and DBSCAN to classify and analyze abnormal gauge points, providing valuable insights for railway maintenance. The study concludes with a case study demonstrating the effectiveness of the algorithm in detecting both global and local anomalies, offering a robust tool for enhancing railway safety and operational efficiency.
