Today’s society and economy face numerous complex social challenges (the so‐called “Grand Challenges”), including climate change, demographic change, urbanisation, digitalisation, and more (Wissenschaftsrat 2015). In response, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has been paying increasing attention to the dramatically changing ecological situation in its annual Global Risks Report (e.g. World Economic Forum 2019). Risks related to climate change have gained considerable importance and been among the top five risks in the Global Risk Reports since 2011. The authors have also urgently warned that the world community could “sleepwalk” (World Economic Forum 2019, p. 5) into a global crisis. In the 2020 Global Risk Report all top-five-risks, for the first time in the report’s history, were environmental risks (World Economic Forum 2020). …
