Abstract

The article presents a cutting-edge approach to nail melanoma classification using transfer learning-based quantized deep learning models. It begins by discussing the prevalence and challenges of melanoma, particularly nail melanoma, and the limitations of conventional diagnostic methods. The authors introduce a new dataset, Nail-Melanoma-350, and employ various CNN-based transfer learning models to classify nail melanoma images. The research involves data augmentation to enhance the dataset's quality and performance metrics such as accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. Additionally, the models are quantized to enable efficient deployment on low-power edge devices. The study demonstrates the superior performance of ResNet152V2 among several pre-trained models and highlights the potential of quantized models for real-world applications. The findings contribute to the early detection and classification of nail melanoma, offering promising avenues for future research and clinical applications.
