Abstract

The article discusses the challenges posed by the increasing demand for electrical energy and the rapid growth of renewable sources, particularly wind power. It introduces a novel multi-objective transmission expansion planning (TEP) approach based on Pareto dominance, which considers load variation and wind power integration. The methodology aims to optimize investment costs, energy not supplied (EENS), and wind energy curtailed (EWES) under multiple uncertainties. The proposed approach, called Improved Non-dominated Monte Carlo Simulation (IND-MCS), leverages probabilistic methods and neural networks to provide a more realistic and efficient solution. The article presents a detailed mathematical formulation, system modeling, and case studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the IND-MCS approach can significantly reduce overinvestments and improve the trade-off between the objectives, making it a valuable tool for power system planners and analysts.
