Abstract

The article examines the critical aspects of data transport in data-intensive science, highlighting the unique challenges that arise in large-scale scientific collaborations. It begins by discussing the importance of efficient data transfer in scientific research, using the global system implemented by CERN as a prime example. The text then delves into the complexities of TCP congestion control algorithms, comparing BBR and Cubic in various scenarios, and assessing their performance in single-path and multipath network topologies. The use of the FABRIC testbed provides a realistic framework for evaluating data transport efficiency, with a focus on bandwidth allocation and flow completion times. The article also explores the potential of network slicing and traffic engineering to optimize data transport, offering insights into the practical deployment and performance evaluation of these technologies. Additionally, the use of the Theory of Bottleneck Structures provides a theoretical foundation for understanding and optimizing network performance. The article concludes with a discussion on future work, including the deployment of advanced routing protocols and the incorporation of bottleneck structure analysis to further enhance data transport efficiency in data-intensive science.
