Abstract

The chapter delves into the transport of wipes in sewer systems, highlighting the challenges posed by improper disposal of both flushable and non-flushable wipes. It presents systematic experiments conducted in a circular pipe to understand the transport mechanism of non-flushable wipes, focusing on critical ambient cross-sectional mean velocity, critical Shields number, and wipe movement velocity. The study reveals that wipes can be more easily mobilized than sediments, and it develops a new relationship for predicting the critical Shields number for wipes. The chapter also discusses different transport modes of wipes, including sliding, rolling/saltation, and suspension, and classifies these modes based on the transport stage number. The findings provide valuable insights for sewer design and management, aiming to prevent solid deposition and minimize blockages.
