Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of prosthetic sockets in providing both strength and comfort for amputees. Traditionally made manually, the chapter highlights the potential of additive manufacturing (AM) using HP Jet Fusion technology for rapid and accurate socket production. It discusses the integration of design software and FEA simulations to optimize socket geometry and volume. The use of lattice structures is explored for weight reduction and enhanced thermoregulation. The chapter also provides a detailed design procedure, from scanning the residual limb to manufacturing the final socket, and presents a structural analysis comparing different integration constructions. The produced sockets showcase a significant weight reduction and high strength, proving the feasibility of AM in prosthetic manufacturing.
