Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of water treeing in XLPE power cables, a primary cause of insulation degradation. It discusses the initiation and propagation of water trees, particularly vented-type water trees, which are the most dangerous. The study employs finite element analysis to simulate water treeing and electrical treeing, highlighting the role of impurities and the electric field in these processes. The use of rejuvenation fluid to halt and mitigate water treeing is extensively explored, with a focus on the chemical reactions and dielectric property changes that occur post-injection. The article concludes with a detailed analysis of the electric field intensity before and after rejuvenation, demonstrating the effectiveness of this technique in enhancing cable lifespan. The inclusion of scanning electron microscopy images offers a vivid visualization of the treeing phenomenon, making the article both informative and engaging.
