A group of market analysts I met up with at the IAA International Motor Show sought to assure me that no matter what standing Honda and Toyota might have, the hybrid engine would ultimately fail on global markets. That was back in 2003. When I asked them at the time about the forward scope of their forecast, they indicated that it was a maximum of seven years. Of particular significance to them was the opinion of Professor Hans-Jörg Bullinger, the former President of the Fraunhofer Society.
