Abstract

The chapter delves into the feasibility of constructing an underground metro system in the Kathmandu Valley, specifically focusing on the Patan Line from Bhrikutimandap to Satdobato. It explores the ground conditions, including the geological formations and soil properties, which are crucial for tunnel design. The study also examines the tunneling techniques, particularly the use of Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines (EPB TBMs), which are deemed suitable for the clayey silt and silty clay found in the valley.
