Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricacies of turbulent flow over a train of K-type roughness elements, with a particular focus on the boundary layer development and how surface waves influence flow characteristics. Experiments were conducted in a water-wave facility to measure velocity fluctuations and assess mean velocity, turbulent intensity, and Reynolds shear stress in both steady and wave-induced flow conditions. The results reveal significant variations in flow profiles within the cavity of the roughness elements, highlighting the complex interplay between roughness and wave-induced turbulence. This study offers valuable insights into the behavior of turbulent flows over rough beds, which has implications for various engineering and scientific applications.
