Within the framework of a research project, Working Group 6 of the Research Association of Automotive Technology (FAT) examined ways of reducing the aerodynamic drag of modern passenger car production tyres. They found that above all the shape of the tyre shoulder and the design of the outer side wall have a major influence on the tyre’s aerodynamic drag, and to a large extent this influence is independent of the vehicle involved. …
