Abstract

The article presents a thorough investigation into ultrasonic-assisted oil extraction from Croton macrostachyus leaves, a plant commonly found in Eastern Africa. It highlights the optimization of extraction conditions using response surface methodology, focusing on parameters such as sonication temperature, time, power, and solid-to-solvent ratio. The study also examines the physicochemical properties of the extracted oil, including fatty acid composition and various quality metrics like iodine value, acid value, and peroxide value. The research underscores the potential of ultrasonic extraction as a viable and efficient method for enhancing the value of this African crop, offering insights that could benefit both the agricultural and pharmaceutical sectors.
