Abstract

This chapter delves into the hygric characterization of a composite material made from raw earth and flax fibers. The study focuses on measuring the water vapor permeability of raw earth, flax fibers, and their composite using the cup method. The results reveal that fiber orientation significantly affects water vapor permeability, with longitudinally oriented fibers exhibiting higher permeability. The addition of flax fibers to raw earth material enhances its water vapor permeability. The chapter also discusses the uncertainties in measurement, highlighting the high precision of the experimental tests. The findings contribute to understanding the hygrothermal properties of eco-materials, which are crucial for sustainable building practices.
