Abstract

The chapter investigates the uncertainty of measurement in geotechnical parameters of lateritic soil, essential for safe foundation design. It identifies various sources of uncertainty, such as soil variability, measurement errors, and environmental conditions. The study focuses on assessing the uncertainty of parameters like specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit, and maximum dry density, among others, by performing tests five times and calculating standard and expanded uncertainties. The methodology involves using the NABL 141 document and validating results with a NABL-accredited laboratory. The findings provide a confidence level in test results and can be extended to other soil types. The detailed analysis and validation process make this chapter a valuable resource for professionals seeking to understand and minimize uncertainties in geotechnical testing.
