Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence

Frontmatter
1. What Is Meant by Artificial Intelligence and How Can It Be Used?
Abstract
The core of Artificial Intelligence is to take over tasks that were previously reserved for humans. Through the ability of AI systems to analyze large data sets, recognize patterns, and generate “new” content, a wide range of applications open up. These range from processing human language and images to expert systems and robots that can independently perform a multitude of tasks. Ethical boundaries must be considered when using AI.

2. Drivers of Artificial Intelligence
Abstract
This chapter discusses the central drivers of Artificial Intelligence. These include Moore’s Law, the digitization and dematerialization of products and processes, networking via the Internet of Everything, the availability of Big Data, and various new technologies. The focus on sustainable corporate governance also represents an AI driver.

3. Production, Maintenance, Mobility, Transport, Agriculture
Abstract
A variety of AI solutions can be used in the areas of production, maintenance, mobility, transport, and agriculture. Every company is called upon to identify the specific and particularly rewarding fields of application for itself. Exciting example applications are discussed in this chapter.

4. Marketing, Sales, Customer Service
Abstract
Marketing, sales, and customer service are particularly interesting for AI use. Here, diverse fields of application can be identified that can improve the customer experience. In addition, AI systems can also optimize processes that are only visible to the customer in their results—for example, in customer guidance or campaign planning processes.

5. Health and Safety
Abstract
One of the most significant changes brought about by the use of AI in the health sector is the transition from disease treatment (reactive care) to a care that focuses even more on the diagnosis of diseases at an early stage or before their occurrence (proactive care). The increasing performance of AI systems, for example, promotes the pattern recognition in digital data and images. This can not only increase the accuracy of diagnosis, but also find the most promising therapy. Various AI applications are also used for the analysis and enhancement of safety.

6. Energy Sector and Smart Home
Abstract
In the energy sector, AI systems can make significant contributions to increasing energy efficiency in energy generation, energy transmission, and energy consumption. Prerequisites for this are, among other things, Smart Grids and Smart Meters. In the Smart Home, AI-supported products and processes can be used. These offer a high level of convenience but also additional security risks.

7. Education and Knowledge Transfer
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence can assist in overcoming many challenges in the education sector. These include the development of adaptive learning systems and the possibility of incorporating AI engines into the evaluation of written performances. AI can also assist with administrative tasks in the education sector and in communication with students. AR and VR applications as well as immersive learning environments contribute significantly to knowledge acquisition.

8. Human Resource Management (HRM)
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence can support HRM along the entire Talent Journey. This begins with Augmented Writing and continues with an AI-based analysis and evaluation of applicants. Here, CV-Parsing plays a significant role. During onboarding as well as in the internal identification and development of talents, AI engines can provide important impulses.

9. Financial Services Sector
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence will revolutionize the financial sector, by increasing efficiency and enabling tailored financial solutions. Through advanced data analysis, AI can predict market trends and provide investment recommendations, contributing to the improvement of portfolio management. In risk management, AI can help detect and prevent fraud, while simultaneously supporting compliance with regulatory requirements. Chatbots and other AI-driven customer interaction tools can improve customer service by offering personalized support around the clock. Finally, AI can contribute to significant cost savings through the automation of routine processes, thus increasing profitability.

10. Military Sector
Abstract
In the military sector, AI is used for surveillance and reconnaissance, where it analyzes large amounts of data to identify relevant information and patterns. AI also drives the development of autonomous systems that can be used for surveillance, reconnaissance, transport, and combat tasks. Furthermore, AI is applied in cybersecurity to detect and respond to network anomalies and network attacks. Even in military logistics and maintenance, significant efficiency gains can be achieved through AI solutions.
To advance the use of artificial intelligence in weapon technology, countries like China, Great Britain, Israel, Russia, South Korea, and the USA invest billions every year. If serious threats to humanity from artificial intelligence are to be expected, this is probably most likely in this area. The use of AI in the military sector has significant potential to revolutionize the way military operations are conducted today and in the future.

11. Metaverse
Abstract
In the Metaverse, Artificial Intelligence plays a central role. It enables personalized and immersive experiences, such as the creation of dynamic virtual worlds and the support of intelligent avatars. AI analyzes user interactions to further improve and personalize the user experience. Moreover, AI enables realistic and natural interactions in the Metaverse by recognizing language, images, and increasingly also emotions.

12. Developing an AI Journey in your Own Company
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence has the potential to fundamentally change politics, economy and society. Despite this, there is still a great deal of uncertainty about how and especially how quickly this technology will continue to develop. Therefore, every company is called upon to start an individual AI journey—now!

13. Outlook
Abstract
Today, we almost exclusively talk about the risks of Artificial Intelligence. We must primarily ask ourselves where AI can be used to create value.
Many fears associated with Artificial Intelligence stem from the fact that we fear a loss of control because we can no longer understand why something happens. If we are honest, we accept this loss of control in a multitude of applications—even today. Who can—except for the respective specialists—explain how a combustion or a diesel engine works exactly, how a solar power plant generates energy, how the Google search algorithm is structured and how the processes in a smartphone work, which we use every day? And yet we use and trust these systems—24/7.

14. Data, Law and Responsibility—Legal Challenges in the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Lawyer Franz Peter Altemeier, DDV Managing Director
Abstract
This chapter addresses the current legal challenges in the use of artificial intelligence and shows ways for a pragmatic approach in business practice. At the same time, it discusses the ambivalence of AI and the role of law in its use. It addresses the influence of the AI tool ChatGPT and the associated legal risks, especially in content marketing, are explained. Copyright and related rights aspects are considered.
