Abstract

The study investigates the drying mechanisms of cellulose slurries using magnetic resonance imaging, focusing on the evolution of water distribution and pore size during the process. It identifies three distinct drying regimes: an initial constant-rate period, a homogeneous desaturation phase, and a final stage characterized by a dry front. The research highlights the role of capillary stress, Laplace pressure, and the unique properties of cellulose fibers in maintaining a constant drying rate even at low water content. The findings provide valuable insights into the behavior of cellulose slurries during drying, with implications for optimizing industrial processes and understanding fundamental material properties.
