Abstract

The chapter delves into the challenges users face with Federated Identity Management (FIM) despite its security benefits. It introduces a unique tangible elicitation method using felt icons and a flocked board to visualize users' mental models of FIM processes. The study reveals significant misconceptions about data flow and information sharing, highlighting the need for clearer information from Identity Providers. The method, inspired by a children's toy, proves effective and enjoyable for participants, suggesting potential for broader application in cybersecurity research. The chapter concludes with recommendations for improving user understanding and trust in FIM systems.
