Abstract

This chapter explores the application of unsupervised machine learning and network embedding techniques to uncover Ebola-human protein-protein interactions (PPIs). The study aims to predict novel PPIs by leveraging the topological similarity of the interaction network, offering an alternative to traditional supervised learning methods. The research involves constructing a bipartite graph of known Ebola-human interactions, generating node embeddings using Node2Vec, and clustering human protein embeddings to identify non-interacting pairs. The predicted PPIs are validated through functional annotation, pathway enrichment analyses, and literature references. The findings highlight the potential of unsupervised learning in drug development and therapeutic target identification for Ebola virus disease. The study also discusses the limitations of existing PPI databases and the need for advanced computational approaches to progress host-specific binding research.
