Abstract

Heißzeit – so lautet der Begriff, den die Jury der Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache nach dem extrem heißen und trockenen Sommer zum ‚Wort des Jahres 2018‘ gewählt hat. Analog zur Eiszeit spielt das Wort nicht nur auf die neu aufgestellten Hitzerekorde an, sondern bezieht sich auch auf den Anbruch einer neuen Klimaperiode. Denn der Klimawandel begünstigt das Auftreten extremer Hitzeereignisse. Dies gilt insbesondere für urbane Räume, wo aufgrund der dichten und hohen Bebauung verstärkt Wärmeinseleffekte (urban heat island effects) auftreten (Scherer & Endlicher 2013).
